Smita Chandiwala - South Asia Women in Energy (Sawie)

Smita is the Founder and Principal at Energe-se, a development research and consultancy organization. Her work has focused on providing sustainability solutions for buildings and cities, including climate change policy design and implementation. She has worked closely with the government, policy research think tanks and civil society, and philanthropic funders to develop strategy, provide technical assistance and facilitate stakeholder dialogue towards policy development, capacity building, communication, and design of data frameworks and market mechanisms for the built environment.

She has diverse global experience spanning philanthropy, academia, consultancy and architectural design. Prior to founding Energe-se, Smita worked at Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation providing strategic leadership to the buildings and appliance energy efficiency programs, which led to key recommendations being absorbed across relevant policies. She was the India expert for the Global Buildings Performance Network, Paris. She has also worked as a research fellow at the Oxford Institute of Sustainable Development, taught postgraduate architecture students at Oxford Brookes University, and worked in architectural practices in Delhi and London.

She studied architecture at TVB School of Habitat Studies, Delhi and holds a postgraduate specialization in Energy Efficient and Sustainable Building, from Oxford Brookes University, UK.
